So our goal, Dear Reader, was to blog once a week. As you are aware, we've missed a week or two (or three or four). Well...all will be made up to you. It isn't that we forget, it comes up in conversation often. In fact, I'm referencing a notecard that is currently filled with things to blog about. So...while the date may appear as if these are all written at the same time, we'll treat it as if did all of this on time.
With both of us having obtained our bachelor's degrees in theater, we have been missing experiencing a show. It is a little amazing to me that nobody seems to attend theater anymore, even those that have it so close on a college campus. In the last two years, Liz and I saw one production of The Pillowman while we were at UCA. It was a perfectly average and acceptable college production and met our expectations.
Upon arriving at SIUC, we were somewhat anxious to see what this theater department could pull off. And this is Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream we're talking about. Between new actors' abilities, directors' temptations to come up with the most unique performance (as if that is ever a good goal), and the potential for designers to over-conceptualize, there was a lot to fear.
The production was amazing. The set was gorgeous. There were only two actors that seemed to be faking their way through a Shakespeare show; only one of which was so bad that I found his name in the program and may ask if he has any major roles in any future productions that we plan to attend. I can't find any good pictures of the set, but here's an article written on the show.
Aside from a great show, Liz has also gotten her test results back from the GMAT. Good news...she has the score she needs! Now she's just waiting on a few of her references to come in, and she's good to finish the application process.
